Nutmeg and its uses…

Nutmegs have been used since medieval times and were extremely valuable, so people carried them in locked boxes attached to their clothing to keep them safe!

The aroma of nutmeg oil is warm, spicy and sweet and, for me, is very comforting at this time of year as it brings back childhood memories of rice pudding on wintry days! It has always been grated onto milky puddings as was used to help the digestion for centuries – I suppose it settled your stomach if the milk had bugs in or was slightly off!! It was also supposed that a milky drink with nutmeg would lull you to sleep and keep nightmares away.

Nutmeg oil is euphoric so simply makes you feel better and more energised… a bonus in the darker months. If you find yourself at the end of your tether, mix nutmeg with a favourite oil such as clary sage, orange, grapefruit, lavender or geranium and allow the aroma to invade your home and calm those nerves, get rid of that fear and alleviate sadness and moods. Yummy!!
